Osprey Valley Resort : A 54 Hole Facility
by Scott A. Sumner
Located in Alton, Ontario just north of Toronto is a unique 54 hole facility called Osprey Valley Resorts. This unique golf facility includes three distinct 18 hole courses - the Heartlands, Hoot and Toot layouts. Both Hoot and Toot play to around 7100 yards and are a great challenge for all players. These layouts are well designed by Canadian Architect Doug Carrick and proved to be in very good condition. On our golf trip to Osprey Valley were several golfers from England and Australia who just loved the course layouts, in the tradition of a links course. The facility is currently completing a new clubhouse facility which will add to the golf courses. A more central location will allow for easier routing of golfers to their starting holes.
Green Fees were quite reasonable at Osprey Valley with the most expensive course the Hoot at Monday to Thursday $90 and Friday to Sunday and holidays $105. Heartland Links charge $70, and $85 respectively while the Toot is $80 or $95. The conditioning of these layouts was good, including tees, fairways and greens. I would have liked to see a cleaner look in some areas immediately adjacent to holes where there appeared to have been construction activities in the past. Anything in view is important to the overall golf experience.
Osprey Valley is doing very well in terms of player counts and will eventually have two more courses in the facility. They have over 2000 acres of available land. Be sure to give this large golf facility in Canada a try when in the Toronto area. For further information visit www.canadagolf.com
