G-MAC by Kartel Unveils Spring 2013 Collection, Puts Style On Par With Performance

by Scott A. Sumner

“ We have been working with Padraig Harrington for many years  with our golf clothing. Graeme McDowell bumped into Padraig in the locker room at an event and saw Graeme was wearing a Kartel sweater. This lead to our relationship with Graeme McDowell.” said Karl Swan, Managing Director of Kartel based out of Dublin, Ireland. “  The business was founded 65 years ago by my grandfather who was a master tailer who could measure you up from head to toe and that is where our heritage of fine quality clothing started. We have three different  types of clothing including  ready made suits jackets and trousers,  casual with jeans etc and then the golf division broken down into  Kartel by  Padraig and the G-Mac by Kartel based around Graeme’s style and identity.”

Kartel is a small family run Irish business. Padraig Harrington helped them distribute  their product to now 32 countries. He is a 3 time major winner and helped  grow the brand.  Kartel have a staff of 26  who are mostly sales agents.    “ G Mac likes the modern vintage look  going back to the era of Bobby Jones  who would turn up to the golf events beautifully presented. He was a gentleman inside and outside. They are attributes that Graeme likes and would like to emulate.  He has a style that helps to define him and a specific look,” said Karl Swan. “  Graeme is such a kind heated guy. When he won his first event he picked up his father from work and brought him around the neighbourhood to pick one of the house for sale  and buy it for him. We have seen this first hand that he wanted to include a certain amount of the sales proceed from the clothing to charity to help those less fortunate. Each year he flys a group of sick children  to Orlando to Disney World.”     Kartel and the G Mac clothing  is available on line and in premium golf shops. A golf shirt is $ 70 to $ 80 US dollars.  A  knit wear product is $100 to $150.  G Mac clothing is also avialable at  pro shops at Pebble Beach, Medinah, Hazeltine and other high end courses.  It is very performance driven clothing that handles well with a nice sophisticated look  but  with a very fair price.

. "G-Mac by Kartel is all about me playing to my strengths and harnessing my experiences as a player to create a range that I would want to wear on and off the course" said Graeme, who officially began wearing the collection in January 2012. The G-MAC by Kartel collection includes a full collection of premium sophisticated apparel and accessories, that gives a nod to Graeme's modern vintage style. The continual focus on superior craftsmanship, performance fabrics, innovative design and colors, has culminated into a collection of pure artistry. The Dunluce Polo, shown here in Galway blue. Spring 2013 Styles: New polo styles are offered for Spring 2013 such as the elegant Galgorm polo made of luxurious Pima Cotton and 40% DRI-TECH polyester, featuring tailor stitching on the collar, placket and cuff, as well as on the split back yoke. In addition to solids, this season introduces stylish patterns such as the polka dot Gracehill polo that features a contrast polka dot design and color placket. The Dunluce polo features a herringbone jacquard design with a subtle contrast placket. The micro-striped Rathmore polo has contrast color on the collar and button placket. The Portrush Polo is offered in eight colors this season and is fast becoming the classic of the G-Mac by Kartel collection, often seen worn by Graeme in his favorite Bell Heather color. Also available again this season is the Malone polo, featuring contrast colored buttons and sleeve tipping. All of the polo shirts in the collection feature either button down, or button under semi-structured collars. The labels are printed on the neck back for comfort, and are discreetly branded with a Corozo (or coconut shell) badge on the right sleeve. The G-Mac by Kartel has extended their knitwear for 2013. The classic and luxurious MGWool is a 100% pure mercerized wool V-Neck sweater, and is also offered as a sweater vest.   The McZip, shown here in Oyster with Salmon contrast detailing. New knitwear styles for 2013 include the McZip, an elegant quarter-zip knit that is available in long sleeve or sleeveless, and the McButton, a five button cashmere blend cardigan that accents beautifully with a matching polo worn underneath. The trouser collection for 2013 has expanded to include the extremely popular McCheck T, often seen worn by Graeme during competitions. Color stories for 2013: The Spring 2013 G-Mac by Kartel Collection introduces a brilliant color palette that incorporates Irish themes. Vibrant brights are contrasted with more traditional solid colors, each color combination embodying the history and heritage of Graeme and his ancestors. Bell Heather is paired with the pale color of the traditional Irish Sodabread, to create what Graeme refers to as a "match made in heaven". The succulent colors Oyster paired with Salmon is a reflection of Graeme's memory of the taste of sea air and fresh seafood. Graeme believes that when he looks and feels his best, he performs his best. The color of the blue skies in Galway County, in contrast with black evokes a feeling of strength and confidence needed in any competition. Finally, the color combination of Magenta and Navy conjures the image of dawn over the Antrim coastline that Graeme used to see growing up in Portrush. Performance Fabric Stories for 2013: All products in the G-Mac by Kartel collection are designed in Ireland with superior Irish craftsmanship. The polo shirts have a UV factor of up to 30, and feature anti-microbial odor management properties. There are two patented moisture management technologies that wick away perspiration comfortably; Dry Tec allows shirt moisture to rapidly evaporate, while Absorbtec enables shirts to absorb and quickly dry away moisture. Knitwear is composed of either 100% pure mercerized wool, or a cashmere blend, both are extremely breathable fabrics that provide optimum outward air circulation for temperature regulation.
