Core Golf Academy @ Whitewater Golf Club Announces Launch of New Golf Development Center in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Thunder Bay, ON - The Core Golf Academy at Whitewater in partnership with The Golf Association of Ontario (GAO) announced today the official launch of a new Golf Development Center (GDC) in Thunder Bay designed to provide a clear developmental pathway for junior golfers in the local community. This revolutionary centre will provide structured coaching support to bridge the current gap between grassroots and high performance programs for young golfers in the area.

"If you examine sports like swimming, skiing or hockey, athletes have a clear concept of the pathway available to develop their skills to the highest potential - a pathway that doesn't currently exist in golf," said Mike Kelly, Director of Sport Development for the Golf Association of Ontario.

"This new Golf Development Centre at Whitewater will provide athletes with full service coaching and training opportunities for all stages of their development in order to fill the current void that exists in the sport."

Developed with support from Golf Canada and the Canadian PGA, the local Centre will be managed by Canadian PGA Class A Professional and Head Coach, Dustin Wilson. Standardized curriculum is provided through the Golf Association of Ontario that encompasses all facets of sport science including technical and tactical instruction, mental and fitness training, biomechanics, and nutrition.

"The Core Golf Academy at Whitewater is excited to be certified as a Golf Development Centre," said head coach Dustin Wilson. "We feel that this is a positive step forward in providing developing young golfers in our community with the best coaching programs possible and a clear pathway to reach their full potential in the sport."

"With golf set to be included in the Olympics in 2016, implementing a structured development program for young Canadian golfers will be an essential part of athlete success on the world stage," said Jeff Thompson, Chief Sport Development Officer at Golf Canada.

Golf Development Centers are now in place at more than 25 facilities in the province, stretching from Thunder Bay to the Greater Toronto Area to Kingston with expansion plans underway to include more facilities as the programs roll out across the province. Each Golf Development Center will be certified through the Golf Association of Ontario, and the GDC program is now the recommended development pathway for all junior golfers in Ontario.
