Thunder Bay Country Club Is A Hidden Gem
by Scott A. Sumner
It was fun to go back and play the TBCC course late last fall. I had been a member of this course for 5 years in the 80’s and always enjoyed the 9 hole layout that is located on a beautiful property in the heart of Thunder Bay. In fact the TBCC is in an area that has seen tremendous growth at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre campus and Lakehead University.
The Golf Links Road has been completely rebuilt and in full view of the course is the new Health Services Centre building.
As is well known, a condominium project on the site has had it ups and downs with the tearing down of the clubhouse and beginning of foundation work that has sat unfinished for quite some time now. I do believe the tremendous location of this property will lead to the project being finished at some point in time, hopefully sooner that later. If you are a golfer this would especially be a great place to live.
The golf course remains an excellent test of golf with pretty terrain and interesting holes. My favourite part of the course is the par 3 over the creek and subsequent hole leading back to the start point of your nine. The greens were perfect the day I played and the coloured leaves spectacular. I believe the TBCC has some great green fees offers this season and Head Professional Craig Morton is known as one of the most popular pros in the region. Craig will make sure you enjoy your golf day at the TBCC.
