The Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel is ready for another round. Recently, executives from the Staal Foundation Open and the Mackenzie Tour- PGA TOUR Canada announced that the world-class golf tournament will be making a return to Thunder Bay, Ontario, scheduled at Whitewater Golf Club July 10th to the 16th, 2017.

This is the fourth year the Staal family is backing the tournament in their hometown, with the Staal Family Foundation as the title sponsor for this event. Recognized for their skills on the ice, the Staal
family is also known for their commitment to the community and giving back to families in need.

“We are proud to continue our support of this incredible community event. We are definitely ready for more and we are absolutely honoured to be a part of the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel for its 4th year. We all know that the number 4 holds a lot of significance in the hockey world, so we have an even bigger and better event planned for 2017,” says Eric Staal of the Minnesota Wild.

Over the last three years, volunteers, the community and organizers have helped drive the star-studded tournament, raising over a half a million dollars for kids and families battling cancer in Northwestern Ontario. Last year alone, the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel had a record breaking year, donating $250,000 to local charities, creating a $4-milllion economic impact and hosting over 14,000 attendees.

“The City of Thunder Bay finds tremendous value in its collaborative partnership with the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel. The tournament is an economic engine, providing spectators with a solid, high-quality tournament. Our hotels, restaurants, and businesses
benefit greatly from the stream of visitors, and the city’s name is profiled in national and international media, in the most positive light;” says Mayor Keith Hobbs, City of Thunder Bay.

“Each year, the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel has proven to be a model event on the Mackenzie Tour. It continues to be not only a premiere sporting event, but most importantly a catalyst for positively impacting the community, and we’re looking forward to a fantastic event in 2017.” said Mackenzie Tour President Jeff Monday.

At the announcement, Staal Foundation Open representatives also announced its inaugural Board of Directors, a roster of dedicated community volunteers that will lead the planning and execution of the event.

Tbaytel is returning as presenting sponsor for the 2017 event. “Tbaytel is thrilled to share in the announcement that we will once again be partnering with the Staal Foundation Open as the tournament’s presenting sponsor for the next two years,” says Tbaytel president and CEO Dan Topatigh. “If the results of the first three years of this partnership are any indication of what’s next for the Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel, I have no doubt that our shared commitment
to support our community through economic development, community growth, promotion of the sport of golf and perhaps most importantly, the benefit of giving back through charitable donation, will only continue as we move forward together."
