It was fun to play Chapples Golf course recently with Greg Alexander, Tom Forsythe and Pat Berezowski of Golf Thunder Bay. Our round together gave us some time to see how the courses were doing this summer.
“ Strathcona is doing well now after a slow start due to some bad greens but condition wise it is great shape. We managed to get all the repairs done from when the idiots with their ATV’s were out there and ripped them up. The staff got great comments on conditioning during
the Strathcona Invitational,” said Forsythe.“ The fairways are much better with the irrigation system which we installed. The course is continuing to mature and filling in extremely well. We are able to mow the fairways a little shorter and the ball sits up a little better. It is a great place to go and play and a nice piece of property. It is our most difficult golf course and will give
you our best test of golf. It is a little hillier to walk than say Chapples and the greens are a little smaller. If I could chose only one course to play in Thunder Bay I would choose Strathcona.”
“ Chapples is in really good shape as well. We had some springtime problems but were able to recover from those. The greens are rolling well and the ball sits up extremely well on the fairways. It is another good test of golf. It is in the middle of the city and easy to get to. We offer some nice packages,” said Forsythe. “ It is our busiest course typically. It helps to get a tee time but we offer every third tee time as a walk on. We will get you out on the course.”
